There will be stories told, songs sung and lots of talk, but come prepared to work. Friday February 10, 8 p.m. : INDRA’S NET: CONNECTION, REFLECTION, REFRACTION, DISTRACTION AND FINALLY, LOVE!
A net stretches throughout the universe; at each crossing point a polished jewel reflects all the other jewels. This is Indra’s Net. Blissful, baleful, welcomed, or refused, the Universe presents us with unwavering offerings of connection. When we refuse, we get lost in the stars; when we open our hearts, we dance the cosmos and discover Love. For her ninth annual Love Stories concert, Regina Ress plays with images of connection, bringing stories from around the world … and the human heart.
Sunday, April 1, 3 p.m.: EMPATHY AND ENGAGEMENT: STORIES FROM JOHN STEINBECK AND RAY BRADBURY
What do a tough waitress in John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath and a weary librarian in a Ray Bradbury story have in common? When empathy precedes engagement, how extraordinary the compassion, the courage and the connection between human beings can be. How essential it is to find… and offer… the helping hands as we make our life journeys. Join Carol Birch, one of America’s preeminent storytellers and master of the literary tale, for an exhilarating, thought provoking and wonderfully entertaining afternoon of stories.
Sunday, April 29, 3 p.m.: WHAT? DIDN’T I TELL YOU?
“Unpredictable, uncategorize-able, and a better than average hockey and ping-pong player.” So says Frederico Papenfoose of Michael Parent. Storyteller, singer, and recovering asthmatic, Michael has performed for nearly 35 years in a wide and wild variety of venues, moving easily from silliness to poignancy. He combines an understated mastery of the storytelling form with a highly developed sense of fun. This better-late-than-never bow to April Fools Day will contain folk tales, personal stories and general tom-foolery. And there may or may not be door prizes.
