CCM’s Festival of World Music & Story Workshop Registration
Storytelling: A Tool for Preventing and Healing Bullying and Other Violence
Bullying and violence are a fact of life today for our children, in school and at home. Storyteller Helen Wise will demonstrate how stories can be used to create a school and classroom environment where children are equipped to resist the urge to bully or succumb to bullying, where being “disrespected” does not demand a violent retribution. Stories allow students to talk about their fears and hurts without ever having to admit these belong not just to a story’s characters, but also to them.
Participants will:
- Examine a variety of literature, curricula and methods available in print and on the web.
- Explore ways to use stories as a tool for creating bully free communities in their school environment and ways to use stories as a tool for healing when violence and bullying do occur.
For teachers and all those who work with children pre-K through high school
