Join Storyteller Rivka Willick for an exploration of women in traditional tales. Many stories were imagined, created, and often written by women, but the most famous ‘by-lines’ are owned by men. The workshop will take a closer look at several well known and often told tales as well as a few forgotten gems. We’ll look at changes (often surprising to modern audiences) which may have manipulated and altered the meaning and methods of powerful stories.
* Did the ‘Me Too’ movement start in the French Salons during Louis XIV reign?
* Is Little Riding Hood a tale of feminine hysteria or multi-generational female empowerment?
* What negative female stereotypes are reinforced in popular myths and fairy tales?
* Does it matter if the original story was written with negative messaging if we retell it in empowering ways?
* How can we reclaim altered tales?
Workshops are free for members, $10.00 for non-members
